Equine Ortho-Bionomy

Julie Anne O'Neil

Julie Anne O'Neil

Julie O‘Neil has been studying Human Ortho-Bionomy® (OB) since 1998. As an Advanced Practitioner, with over 1000 classroom hours, she became an Instructor in 2010 upon completing the instructor training program. From Julie's lifelong love of and experience with equines it was a natural progression that she began to transfer her knowledge of Ortho-Bionomy to horses. Teaching Equine Ortho-Bionomy (EOB) is a natural extension of her work. She is now an International Instructor and has taught Equine Ortho-Bionomy throughout the United States, Germany, and Australia.

Julie's Journey

Julie has enjoyed and nurtured a life long love of horses. As a teenager, Julie’s  love of horses naturally evolved to riding lessons. Julie’s mother, a Physical Education Instructor, spent long days on her feet. Julie needed a way to convince her mom to take her to riding lessons, after a long day of work, and discovered she had something to barter. Julie seemed to be a natural at massage and agreed to massage her mom’s legs when she needed a ride to her horseback riding lessons. This is where the link between horse and massage began!

Julie has spent many years riding, training and showing dressage horses. From this experience, she has gained understanding about equine alignment, movement, and bio-mechanics.

"It is my hope to raise awareness and understanding of Equine Ortho-Bionomy and to give back to the horse for what they have given us through the years."

Fast forward to 1989, when Julie moved to Ocala, Florida - a center for the equine industry. She rode, trained and showed Arabians for the next 10 years in the art of Dressage as well as Hunter, Pleasure, and Show Hack. In these years, she earned many regional as well as National Championships. After a decade, she longed for a deeper understanding of the equine anatomy. So in 1996, Julie enrolled in the Florida School of Massage, completed the course and became a licensed massage therapist. (LMT)

Shortly thereafter, Julie was invited to teach Equine Sports Massage in the Ocala area and did so from 1997-1999. Julie continued her education of equine anatomy and physiology.

Around that time, she was introduced to Dr. Xie of The Chi Institute. Her job was to hold the horses for the Veterinary Acupuncture classes. She began to learn more about Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. In 2000, Julie traveled to China and was certified in Tui Na (Chinese Manual Therapy) from The Beijing Agricultural University, in Beijing, China. She and Dr. B. Ferguson developed the Tui Na program for horses. Julie co-taught this class at The Chi Institute for ten years. The Tui Na program was also co-taught at The Chi Academy in Germany as well in Perth, Australia by Julie O’Neil and Dr. Ferguson.

While in Massage school, Julie was introduced to Ortho-Bionomy by an instructor at the Florida School of Massage. After 6 months of being introduced to multiple different modalities, it was when Julie was a recipient of Ortho-Bionomy, that she actually “felt herself” from the inside out, in a way she hadn’t felt in all of her massage training.

That began Julie's quest for more knowledge about Ortho-Bionomy. She has studied OB since 1999 and became a Practitioner, then an Advanced Practitioner and finally a Registered Instructor in 2010.
Her goal is to share this work with horses, her life-long love.

Julie has been teaching Equine Ortho-Bionomy for 12 years. Currently, Julie teaches in Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Oklahoma and Florida.

In addition to using OB on horses, Julie will also use some massage techniques as well as acupressure to create an even more powerful, effective treatment for the horse. These modalities blend well for a well rounded healing session for the horse. Julie works with humans as well and likes to work on the riders of the horses, so both can benefit from structural realignment and improved functionality, producing an effective and supple pair of athletes.
